Hailed by many as the best modern book on Christian spirituality, Celebration of Discipline explores the classic "Disciplines," or central spiritual practices, of the Christian faith. Along the way, Foster shows that it is only by and through these practices that the true path to spiritual growth can be found. - Publisher.

A great breakdown of the disciplines of entering into a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God, and in turn, the people around us. I went through this book as part of a book study, and we strived to especially emphasize whatever discipline we were reading by intentionally practicing it during that time as well.
This is a book I'm sure I will go back to in referencing individual disciplines, and it is set up in a way that this would be easy to do without feeling obligated to reread the book in its entirety.
Why is it that even the best nonfiction books always have terrible titles? “Celebration of Discipline?” Who decided to call this wonderful book by such a banal name?
Foster explores the various approaches to Christian spiritual growth (Okay, face it, that little sentence makes this book sound as awful as the title....Why is so difficult to put words to experiences so close to our heart?) Let me just stop talking about the book and suggest that if you are interested in growing spiritually, you give this book a look-see. I found it very thoughtful yet practical.
There were a few chapters of this book that were REALLY good. There were a few of chapters of this book that felt like the author was just trying to impress us with how many people he could quote. Then there were a few chapters that I just wasn't sure if I agreed with them. If you're looking for a spiritual disciplines book, I'd recommend Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life by Donald Whitney.
