In the latest Frontlines book Andrew Grayson's trials continue. He and the crew of deep space attack carrier Washington are marooned far from home in a very odd planetary system. It is sunless but it isn't lifeless. In fact it is a main Lanky system – perhaps their home system. The Washington is running out of supplies and they must look for sources where they can even though the danger is large and close.
Of course they cannot avoid Lanky detection for long and find themselves facing a whole series of do-or-die situations. The odds are long. Major Grayson takes on perhaps his toughest assignments ever (and that is saying something!), and I don't think it is a spoiler to say not everyone can be expected to survive.
This is really good military sf with a mix of both space and ground encounters. Also, we learn just a little more about the enigmatic and relentless Lanky foe. The MC takes some very hard knocks.
Recommended for those who like Mil-SF. (But, best to start with the first book in the series.)
