A #1 New York Times Bestseller! The Shadowhunters must catch a killer in Edwardian London in this dangerous and romantic sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling novel Chain of Gold, from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Cassandra Clare. Chain of Iron is a Shadowhunters novel. Cordelia Carstairs seems to have everything she ever wanted. She’s engaged to marry James Herondale, the boy she has always loved; she has a new life in London with her best friend Lucie; and she bears the sword Cortana, a legendary hero’s blade. But the truth is far grimmer. Cordelia’s marriage is a lie, arranged to save her reputation, while James remains in love with the Grace Blackthorn. Cortana burns her when she touches it. And a serial murderer is targeting the Shadowhunters of London, killing under cover of darkness, then vanishing without a trace. Now Cordelia, James, and Lucie must follow the trail of the killer through the city’s most dangerous streets. All the while, each is keeping a shocking secret: Lucie, that she is attempting to raise the dead; Cordelia, that she has sworn a dangerous oath of loyalty to a mysterious power; and James, that he himself may be the killer they seek.

That ending was the most infuriating thing ever. I am fuming!
I forgot about the ridiculus barriers Cassandra Clare puts between the characters.
SO good that I started reading this series when the final book was already out because otherwise it would've been were unhealthy for me.
Ending a book like that without having the next book out should be ILLEGAL. My feelings are not okay, my eyes are not ok. I AM NOT OKAY.
Cassie, why do you keep doing this to us? It's cruel.
I've literally just put the book down after I finished it and then I came here to write this all-over-the-place review, because I feel like I should express myself RIGHT NOW. Okay, so let's start.
First of all, I HATE HATE HATE Grace. I don't care that her mother (or adoptive mother, anyway) was manipulating her in some ways, she had a choice and she didn't make the right choice. She didn't leave James alone, she didn't understand how bad it would be to bring her brother back to life. She dragged everyone into her freaking mess and I wanted to strangle her multiple times throughout this book.
Second of all, am I the only person who's not AT ALL a fan of Jesse + Lucie? I didn't like them in Chain of Gold, I didn't like them in Chain of Iron either. I just don't like their relationship, I don't like that it made Lucie hide things even from Cordelia, who was supposed to be her parabatai and the person closest to her. And she even allied with Grace? I mean, what the hell? NO.
And can we talk about Matthew and his feelings for Cordelia? I mean... was this really necessary? We've already had this in The Infernal Devices: parabatai falling in love with the same girl, why do we have to go through this AGAIN? I really hope that Cordelia will understand what James has gone through and that she will accept him back in her life and that they will live happy ever after, because I am going to lose my mind if she ends up with Matthew. I just don't see it, I can't picture them together like I do with Daisy and James. They're perfect for each other.
AND OH MY GOD THE MISCOMMUNICATION IN THIS BOOK WAS DRIVING ME NUTSSSSSSSSSSS
Cordelia and James not being able to communicate with each other, not telling each other their feelings this was so cruel and annoying and SO REAL, I mean these things do happen in real life. They happened to me, and it's so painful seeing these characters go through this. My heart hurts, my eyes shedding never ending tears. I just want them to sit down and TALK about their feelings and stop assuming that the other doesn't love them back. I just hope that this will hapen in Chain of Thorns and that they'll finally be together. WE NEED THIS, CASSIE, OK???
3.5
I actually really enjoyed this but there is some flaws.
Cordelia is the main character but.. why? she's boring me and has no personality while every other character does. Why is the story focused on her?
I switched between the physical book and audiobook for this one, it was great until the audiobook gave Magnus an accent that I can only describe as JARRING. It jumpscared me more than once. Truly terrifying.
I hated TDA but loved CCs other series so I had high and low hopes for this series and im glad it met the high ones!
anyways next book pls
