Choices of the Heart
2013 • 374 pages

In 2011 I was first introduced to the writing of Laurie Alice Eakes, and since then I have become quite a fan. I really enjoy all of her stories and I'm excited as some of her backlist is becoming available on Kindle so that I can even go back and read otherwise difficult to find stories. The Midwives series has been an interesting reading experience. Lady in the Mist was fabulous (minus the non character-match cover image) and Heart's Safe Passage was filled with incredible characters and personalities to follow. Choices of the Heart finishes out the trilogy and while generational and a little otherwise the characters are connected one could definitely without any issue read these as a stand alone or out of order and enjoy them just as well.

To me, Choices of the Heart has a whole different flavor from the other two. But the main theme is still a midwife will an undeniable calling to help and heal. This one had quite a few characters, especially male that made me uncomfortable, but that just goes to show how Laurie can really make the personalities come off of the page and alive in my imagination!
