He seems like such a nice man. You’d never guess what was going on in his mind…
Art history professor James Qatar has a hobby: he takes secret photographs of women to fuel more elaborate fantasies. When he’s alone. Behind locked doors. Then one day, he goes a step further and... well, one thing leads to another. Qatar has no choice. He has to kill her. And you know something? He likes it.
When Deputy Chief Lucas Davenport takes the case, he assumes it’ll be straightforward police work. He couldn’t be more wrong. As the investigation trail takes some unexpected turns, it becomes clear that nothing is straightforward about this killer, his victims, or his motives. And to stop him Lucas has no choice but to walk right into his lair.

I enjoyed this book more than some of the others. Of course these books always have a lot of graphic sex and violence so they are not for everyone. This story wasn't fast moving but it had my attention all the way though. I think it was because it went from being something small, a missing persons case, to a possible murder, to a much larger situation. I did foresee the ending though, and I'm pretty sure anyone would. I like the little bits about Lucas' relationship with Weather and I hope they get married.
This one lost me in the middle. It was moving along keeping my interest then 2/3 through it slowed way down and meandered to an ending.
I enjoyed this mystery/thriller featuring Lucas Davenport. One of my favorite scenes was when Davenport meets the computer genius Kidd for the first time. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Mortal Prey.
Obviously awesome.
Weather and Lucas are back on track. Yay because I missed her again.
Qatar is gross and slimy and I can't figure out how to say his name but that's okay. My only real annoyance is Barstad because WHY (?!?!?!) didn't you know better Lucas?! As always, I love the ethical drama that plays out and again, I love Weather. She makes everything better.
