I can't keep reading this. I've tried several times but it is just too YA for my tastes.
The whole Icelandic mythology was nice and very descriptive, a great support and base for the rest of the series. However, I didn't really fall in love with any of the characters because the author didn't give them enough credence to really grasp hold of the connections/relationships they have with each other. I really wish it was more of a character-driven novel but I understand why so much of the history and background story was given in the first book of the series. I think that if the author had created more of a balance, it would attract more readers to really want to know what happens next to the characters. That's why the ending was actually one of the things that killed the book for me. It had the rushed feeling some YA authors tend to put at the end of their novels in order for the reader to have some type of reaction and want to read the next book as soon as possible. This ends up backfiring on them because it comes out strained and almost as if a second story instead the finale to the first.
