This Penguin 60 is an excerpt from Bogarde's autobiography Backcloth. It covers a period of WW2 where Bogarde is in the army in France and Belgium, then India, Singapore and Java (Indonesia). There is nothing particularly enlightening in the excerpt provided here, but it is well written, and shares plenty of his thoughts.
Not sure how this fits into the context of the original work, given that is part 4 of 6 autobiographical works.
Easy to read in an hour or so.
