“Life without fighting is not life at all; it is sleep – passive and a waste of a soul. And furthermore – there is a better way out there, but it is up to us to find it”
“Optimism is positivity without contingency. This is perseverance - determination and grit field by faith in the face of negativity.”
“People get their hearts broken all the time and find a way to go on. That is the maddest thing of all, and it is also the most wonderful.”
When we last left off, our heroes were in Dreamland attempting to save Mauvrey & Mark from the sleeping curse they are under. Without going into detail let's just say that all did not go as planned and Crisa was left behind.
Fast forward to the Darling's castle in Book and the awakening of both Mauvrey and Mark. While patiently waiting for Mauvrey to recover Paige's memories of where the genies are located, the crew begins scheming and planning on how to find and rescue Crisa. For once she is not the Knight in shining armor and is instead the damsel needing to be rescued.
Cue the Midnight Law aspect, where heroes and their chosen questors can go on a quest to save the person they love. The caveat? Do so by midnight or be turned into stone...forever. After going through the test to see who qualifies to enact the Law it seems both Daniel & Chance are able. So our friends are split into two groups, with a like-minded goal in mind ... find the four flames and pass the tests to advance to the final end game and reach Crisa ... or lose Daniel and Chance to be garden statuary and Crisa to the darkness that plagues her and is itching to get out...
Ok... seriously. This was an amazing adventure through all things fairy tale. Not only do we get to go back through previous lands like Oz, Camelot and Toyland but we get to explore Swan Lake, Wonderland (in all its insanity and loveable frustrations) and finally get to glimpse our heroes in Earth.
This is by far my favorite of the series and that is saying a lot because let's face it Book 7 had me all OVER the place with feelings
