Crisanta Knight: : Protagonist Bound

Crisanta Knight: : Protagonist Bound

2016 • 434 pages

Crisanta Knight, daughter of Cinderella, has had her life mapped since the day she was born. Everyone in the land of Book has their role to play, already chosen for them, by the Author. Crisanta does not want to play this fated part and be an ordinary princess...she wants to like a pumpkin...and become something more than people expect. How she is going to accomplish this, has yet to be figured out. But then when has the impossible ever stopped her from trying?

Ok, I told myself no more series until I finish the ones I already have on my plate, or at least a majority of them. However, when the author contacted me about reading this one, I just couldn't pass it up. I'm so very glad I didn't. This is a fantastically fun fairy tale based journey that is well written, well paced, and perfect for YA fans. I would say the target readers are middle grade to early high school. BUT who doesn't love to lose themselves in fantasy like this at any age?

Crisanta Knight is a wonderful MC as she comes into her own... finding the courage and strength of character she needs to fight against the norm of who the Author says she has to be. Her best friends, SJ (Snow White's daughter) and Blue (Red Riding Hood's sister) are exactly the type of strong co-characters that round it out and bring it all full circle.

Now, I know myself well enough to know that this is 5 stars because I loved everything about this book. I also know that while I may love overly descriptive prose, assuming it fits within the story, (which this does), most readers do not. There is a lot of back story to set the tone of the realm, the school, the characters, the Author and their fates.

I also know that while Crisanta often withdraws into herself and has lengthy discussions within her mind, most readers won't enjoy this. I, however, highly enjoyed this as it goes deep into what her fears and insecurities are and shows a lot of her spunkiness while she fights through that fear. She is young, and most of us at her time of life, were no different.

So for those readers that have an issue with these types of situations, be aware when you go into this fun-filled journey. I wholly recommend this one and am looking forward to continuing the series. I did receive this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.
