Fitzwilliam Darcy has been bewitched by the beautiful, witty Elizabeth Bennet.
However, her status in Society makes her unsuitable to be his wife.
He flees from her company, back to London, to try to forget her.
His imperious aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh has always insisted that Darcy was betrothed to her daughter Anne from childhood.
Neither Darcy or Anne favours the alliance and have told Anne's mother. However, Lady Catherine is determined!
When Anne tells Darcy that she has found love and accepted an offer of marriage, he is delighted. However, Lady Catherine won't give her consent until Darcy is no longer available.
To help his cousin, Darcy plans a fake betrothal, hoping that will be enough to convince Lady Catherine.
But who would be willing to enter into a fake courtship?
Darcy decides to approach Elizabeth Bennet and offer a large sum of money, knowing she and her family face genteel poverty.
Elizabeth dislikes Darcy, but needs the money.
So Elizabeth and her sister, Jane move into Darcy House, along with a very grumpy chaperone for the sake of propriety.
Whilst spending time being seen in London and convincing his family, Darcy and Elizabeth come to know each other better.
Could a fake betrothal become a real marriage?
An intriguing storyline, with mild angst and a HEA.
