“Here's the first thing you need to know about Miss Cathy Williams: I am the daughter of a daughter of a queen and my mama never let me forget it.”
Raised on a tobacco farm in Missouri, Cathy's mother never allowed the family to think of themselves as slaves, but as captives. She escapes from the farm during Union general Phillip Sheridan's march through the South during the Civil War, and chooses to disguise herself as a man and join the Army's Buffalo Soldiers after the war, but she never stops looking for her mother and her sister, and she never forgets the strong man who won her heart.
Strong woman? You have never seen a strong woman like Cathy Williams. And you've never seen the Civil War and the post-war West until you've seen it through the eyes of Cathy Williams.
