Good, steampunky fun. There are many characters and a lot going on in this Wild West meets steampunk story. I was a little put off by the introduction of werewolves and witches, cause really, it didn't need it. I loved the Madder brothers and want them to have their own series.
A huge, huge thumbs up to Monk for having not one, but two very strong female characters who hold their own with the men. Excellent!
Monk also excels at describing machinery and “device” work. Very clever. I am looking forward to more in this series. I think Dead Iron belongs on the shelf with Cherie Priest, but it is also a great introduction to the genre for beginner steampunkers.
