I was curious about this book as I'm generally about LGBT treatment in YA litterature. However I couldn't get into Carnival at all...

All the characters are struggling with their sexuality in this novel, but there also seem to be no one straight in this fucking small little town ! Oh, by the way, except for the two mothers, there doesn't seem to be much girls either in this town... WELL THAT COULD EXPLAIN WHY EVERYONE IS GAY !

I couldn't get either while the author gave almost each one of those boys psychic powers, as the only use to those powers was so the romance could go waaaay much quicker (ok, outed my mind reading, didn't saw that one coming). Imho, the book could have gained muuuch more without those powers, but by deepening quite a bit more the characters. At the end, the only character with a bit of consistence ends being Donny. Which is sad because all the others characters become interchangeable.

So, while this book could have been good, I'm afraid the final result didn't live up the expectations.

P.S. : Also, PLEASE, stop using sexual preference, it's not a preference, it's an attraction toward the same sex, not a deliberate choice T____T
