I just finished The Descended by Ingrid J Adams @ingridjadams and here is my review.

Indigo isn't like other kids. His parents are famous and his trust fund is vaste. This isn't what sets him apart. Indigo has gifts he doesn't understand and cannot control. His loneliness is so acute with parents that barely acknowledge his existence. That all changes one night when he goes to the party at Cordelia and Robbie's home for their birthday.

The family welcomes him into their home and their lives until the day Indi's dad decides to move him across to the other side of the world. Cutting the family from his life through fear, Indigo makes a desperate attempt to leave this world. In doing so he finds himself and people like him. His soul family. The only thing missing is Cordelia. His heart yearns for the love he loses in every life he has ever had but this time, something has changed and there is something sinister waiting and they have a plan.

This book was impossible to put down. Impossible. I felt the tendrils of obsession wrap around my soul and I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down until I was done. Firstly I loved that it was set in the 90s. Being a teen myself back then, it felt like I was catching up on friends' lives and I felt really invested in what was going on.

I adore Indigo. ADORE HIM. He is so tortured and his sadness was so palatable I felt my heartache for him. The Carlisles are my new favorite family. They bought him into their hearts and homes and the devastation they felt at having him ripped away was tangible. Ingrid has a really beautiful gift for weaving her characters right into the depths of your heart.

Seeing Indigo grow and learn about his powers while finding his soul family made up for the pain it caused me to see him broken. It was a lovely metaphor on how rock bottom is the starting point to build yourself into a better version of yourself.

The book was written mostly from Indigos and Cordelia's POV which worked really well for me. I thoroughly enjoyed how the supernatural elements were explained and folded in with lucid and well planned out writing. I am a huge fan of the paranormal and conspiracy so this book checked every single box I have.

I'm not going to lie, I wish all 4 books were already out so I could have binged them all back to back and the wait is going to destroy my impatient heart but I am very excited for book 2.

If you love a YA book with paranormal historical romance all rolled into one.... You have to get this book. No joke. Don't walk, RUNNNNNNN!!!!

Thank you for my gifted copy and I hope I see the next one asap!!!
