The romance was great, but some of the scenes were too much and others not enough. I will need to read the next book in the series to see if I like where the story goes.
I actually really liked this but, but I wish it was clearer up front that this is not a standalone. There is no HEA here, because the book isn't finished. As of this writing, the two books together—the complete story—cost $13, which is cool but, again, needs to be clearer up front.
What can I say. My heart is torn apart!! I have loved Laurelin Paige for some time and I am never disappointed when I read her books. DFRM is no different. From your first introduction to Donovan you don't know if he's an arrogant ass or a brooding savior. You spend equal time wanting to love him and knee him in the groin. You watch Sabrina transform from a shy wall-flower to a strong, stubborn woman who doesn't know quite what to make of Donovan nor can she figure out his end game. Loved the journey of reading this one and can't wait for the next book!
This cover is totally lickable! It's a good representation of the story. Has good compostion and nice typography.
UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT
I think I am going to be that person that stands over in the corner that no one wants to talk to over this one. It was just OK for me. Honestly, these supposed “adults” acted more like children with the constant back and forth. Mean jabs and attempts at making each other jealous.
Donovan was an asshole through the whole book. I don't mind a good asshole hero, but you need to give me at least some glimpses of a human with feelings so I can connect with him. I never got that in this book. He was just a constant ass which just ended up making Sabrina look like a doormat for putting up with it. The whole book went something liked this...Donovan being an asshole...Sabrina being a doormat...SEX...Donovan being an asshole...Sabrina being a doormat...SEX...rinse and repeat.
Those issues aside I will say the writing was fantastic. It was nicely paced, and the sex scenes were smokin'. So as of right now, I am on the fence on whether I want to bother with the second book or not. The last chapter made me kind of curious to see where this goes but I am not sure I am up to a whole other book of Sabrina chasing Donovan and him pushing her away. We will see how I feel when it comes out.
