I'm not a huge fan of the covers for this series. The model is nothing like āIā pictured Dane. The composition and typography are pretty good, and as I said with the first cover, I really like the series graphic.
Will wonders never cease? I actually really enjoyed this book. I absolutely LOATHED Dane in book one, so I didn't have high hopes going into this one. But the authors managed to make me a Dane fan. Oh, he was very much still a douche noodle at the beginning of the book, but that said as the book goes on layers of his character are peeled back and what emerges is a pretty decent guy.
As per usual with these authors, this one was well written and paced. In fact, I thought this one was better paced than book one. It held my interest from beginning to end. There were some interesting twists. There was some humor. There were some feels. There was adorable hero-kid action. There were some smokin' hot sex scenes. There was a nice array of secondary characters. There was a cameo from Cole and Whitney and kids (The Bartender).
Both main characters were likable. As I said, Dane grew on me. I had a rough beginning with him as there is a fine line between adorable, sexy, manwhore and egotistical, douche manwhore. He crossed into the douche side for the first 30-40%(?) but like I said above as we learn more about him he grew on me. I should also add he was WAY toned down in this book (thank god). So that helped as well. Ava I just adored from start to finish. She was sassy and sweet, and I LOVED she made Dane work (a little) before letting him back in after his idiocy. I'll admit I shed a tear or two at how sweetly Dane tried to get her back. Lastly, this was all wrapped up with a sweet and heart melting epilogue.
So there you go. I went into this one with much dread. In fact, had I not signed up for all ARCs in one go I would have probably chosen to skip this one, and that would have been a damn shame on my end. Two thumbs up from yours truly.
