This was an enjoyable story about a magical harmonica that works its way into the hands of three different children in three very challenging situations. Overall, I loved all three stories and could have done without the story that caps the other 3. I didn't really see where it added anything.

I'm worried the size of this book may be off putting to many young readers and wonder if it would be more accessible if the stories were told individually or designed as a series.

It's a pretty great read. It's not a masterpiece. I had to fight, several times, not to put it down. It's engagement started to flag with me. I am not a musician and some of that language started to push me right out of the storytelling. I did learn all about harmonica orchestra band from Philadelphia because of the middle story. So, that's a bonus!
