Sometimes I wonder if the purpose of my life
is to serve as a cautionary tale to others.

Charley Davidson has enough going on without having to worry about twelve hellhounds hot on her trail. She is, after all, incredibly pregnant and feeling like she could pop at any moment. But, just her luck, twelve deadly beasts from hell have chosen this time to escape onto our plane, and they've made Charley their target. And so she takes refuge at the only place she thinks they can't get to her: the grounds of an abandoned convent. Of course, if hellhounds aren't enough, Charley also has a new case to hold her attention: the decades-old murder of a newly-vowed nun she keeps seeing in the shadows of the convent.
Add to that the still unsolved murder of her father, the strange behavior of her husband, and Charley's tendency to attract the, shall we say, undead, and she has her hands full...but also tied.

Dear Lordy I hated that ending .-. The middle part didn't make me exactly happy either. It mostly had to do with how Charley and Reyes were forced to stay at the convent on consecrated ground as a precaution against the hell hounds. Sure, there were a lot of riveting plot twists. But I quite miss the old times when Charley drove around kicking ass and solving cases. Don't worry, for those of you who haven't read the book yet; there's a case in this book as well. However, it's just not the same. Anyways, now I'm not sure I want to read the next book, considering how frustrating it'll surely be. (Read this book to understand.)
This installment was SO good! OMG, that ending was intense and completely unexpected.
We start off in the convent because everyone thinks they are under attack by Lucifer's hellhounds. We get to see Cookie's wedding to Ubie, and then we are thrown into another murder mystery case but oh man, things go batshit after that.
I'm really happy to see that Beep's family has grown and expanded to include everybody essential in Charley's life. It was fun to read how they all got involved in her life.
It is the internal story line that is the most interesting. The plot that continues the overarching story line of the whole series has taken a serious turn in this installment. So much so, in fact, that I have no idea how the rest of the series is going to pan out, but I am undoubtedly excited because (not to spoil anything) this changes everything.
This is like those times where people warn you that they're about to spoil something then right after they warn you, they joke and say that the MC dies or the MC is god or whatever. Well, let's just say that in this instance they wouldn't would be completely off the mark.
