Priscilla seems like a very nice person. Elvis was lucky to have her.
But I absolutely hate Elvis after reading this book. I didn't know much about him before going in.
This story is a testament to Priscilla's strength and perseverance, but it is absolutely not a love story.
It was so refreshing to get a piece of the other side of the story. Ironically, to start, my mom was always obsessed with Elvis and I had grown up watching his movies, having Elvis themed lunch boxes and alarm clocks but not really understand the infatuation. So when the biopic came out i was instantly intrigued. I went out and watched it and thought it was absolutely fantastic but, it was lacking a lot of really IMPORTANT information. I was left the theater more curious about Priscilla and her story more than anything else! Come to find she has a book of her own! Well, I ran to the nearest B&N I could find and scooped a copy up. And when I tell you I could not put this book down I mean it. I quite literally read over a hundred pages the first night I had it in my hands.
Though the integrity of truth in this book is debated, I think it's a wonderful explanation of the other side of the coin. Rarely do readers, consumers, ever get a retelling from a celebrity's widow while they are still alive, and almost directly from their mouths. This biography is romantic, a chilling whirl-wind, and absolutely deserves to be consumed.
No matter what you think of it all, the drama and the "he said, she said", in reading this book, you'll find yourself discovering a new potential of compassion and understanding after reading.
