This is a well-crafted, well-written story that offers a different look at “time-travel.” The time travel in this case is a kind of “micro-travel.” Rather than going back years, decades or centuries, in author Anthony Vicino's story, some human beings - “Chronos” - are able to manipulate time in terms of seconds or minutes. Thus, “blinkers” can reset time for up to 30 seconds; “pausers” can stop time for a minute or so; and “blitzers” can speed up their movement in time, but they age horribly fast.
The story follows a blinker on a mission to save another blinker who was captured by a cult/mercenary recruiting company that specializes in Chrono soldiers. The story flips back and forth between Kaelyn as she trains Abi and Kaelyn as she executes the mission to rescue Abi. The reader gets to see how the time manipulation works. We also get to see the injuries that this kind of time manipulation causes its practitioners.
I have given this story five-stars because it is well-done and offers a new look at time as a dimension to be exploited by human beings, but it is not a traditional time-travel story. All in all, it really didn't connect with me in terms of character or ending, perhaps because its fast pace prevented time from being taken to develop Abi as a character I cared about.
Nonetheless it was a good short story and I felt that I got my money's worth.
