First of all, this has maybe the most beautiful art I've ever seen in a graphic novel. It took me longer to read this book because I spent so much time staring at the illustration. Easily my favorite part of this reading experience.
Secondly, the story was really interesting. It's mostly a setup for the following volumes, but I'm very intrigued. It's a quest story, very exciting and adventurous. I also grew to like the characters, although the main character Nathan annoyed me to no end at the beginning of the book. But he's maturing, slowly.
But lastly, I need to mention a couple of minor content issues. It's a middle grade graphic novel, so it's clean as far as language and sex goes. However, a form of nature magic plays a large role in the story, and there are some obvious spiritual cautions that go along with that. It didn't bother me enough to stop reading, but this is something to keep in mind for further volumes.
There is also a non-binary character, although this character is not human.
This book releases in October, and I do recommend it (just read thoughtfully). It's a fun time- with astonishingly beautiful artwork!
