Ricks' book is a stunning critique of the United States' invasion of Iraq that is explanatory and engaging, and not as dry or fact-dense as many books pertaining to the war in Iraq typically are. It's persuasive and insightful, and it made me want to investigate Wolfowitz, Zinni, and Petraeus more. I now feel as though I have a better grasp on what has happened in Iraq, though I do recognize Ricks' potential bias. I'm curious to read his next book, The Gamble shortly. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the war in Iraq without an overt Western bias or overt Muslim/Arab bias, but interested in why strategies, tactics, and planning—or lack thereof—have made the American military invasion of Iraq so problematic. It's a well-written book that is informative without excess use of jargon.
