I'll be honest I picked this book because of the location it was based in, being from the Inland Empire myself its rare to see many stories that take place here.
The story was a good, easier read than what I normally read ao it was a nice break, even if I had figured out where the story was going pretty early on. I'm unsure if I will pick up the sequel but will be considering it.
I decided to read this book because I love a good serial killer crime mystery. In this story, Reni must grapple with her guilt over being used as bait for her father's serial killing sprees. When he offers to reveal where the bodies are located, he adds the stipulation that Reni must be there. She throws herself back into that world, even though it threatens her emotional well-being.
I find this book enjoyable, but nothing about the plot feels very original or overly intriguing. It is not a bad read, but it just doesn't leave me wanting to know more about these characters. This is supposed to be the first in a series, so it's a shame the characters don't really grab me.
This is standard 3 star read for me. It's good, but not great.

This is a better than average, very entertaining mystery.
Reni Fisher is the daughter of a serial killer. Worst still, as a child she participated in the “games” whereby her father captured his victims. She grew up, joined the FBI as a criminal profiler, had a nervous breakdown, and is now on leave in her beloved Mojave Desert.
Now, her father has promised to reveal where he buried the bodies if his daughter meets him.
Daniel Ellis, a police officer with his own dark past, has been assigned to the Fisher case.
I'm not much of a mystery/thriller reader, but I found this to be tense, with attractive characters and a well-written plotline.
I enjoyed this one a lot. The author has a very easy feel to her writing. The mystery was well laid out and kept me guessing until the end. The principal characters were both likable and well developed. I look forward to the next book in the series.
