Flirting With The Enemy

This is the first of the Boys of Summer novellas I did not finish.
I really wanted to like this story, but I gave up at around 6% or so because I couldn't connect to the main characters and the story started out rather bleak and depressing (this might hopefully get better later in the book, but for now, it was just too much for me).
