This book is a diva, and it wants to be a lot of things. It wants to be horror, but it also wants to be a thriller, but then it wants to be a mystery and also a cop story. Huh? Aside from that annoying issue, I love how the author uses simplistic prose and yet still manage to conjure genuine feelings of horror to the readers (at least this reader). I can honestly say that I was truly scared during the first few chapters of the book which in my opinion was creepy, but then (kaput! over) on the second half, the story shifted its gear towards a more crime/thriller territory (to my annoyance) which then continued till the end. Upon reaching the final chapter, I came to the conclusion that this was a decent thriller novel, nothing special, just your old regular page turner for those sun-tanning beach reads, but the saving grace came at the epilogue, which changed the novel into a different type of beast (again). It was one of those ‘OK what did I just read?' moments. Because of the 360 turn, this little gem earned itself a three star rating. If you like creepy, fast paced book that just can't make its mind on what it wants to be, I'd say read this. It went from OK to Meh pretty past, but I did enjoyed it for what it was, which was a lot of things.
