Saint Stanislaus Kostka was a 16th century Polish novice in the Society of Jesus. He entered the Society of Jesus in Rome on his 17th birthday and was said to foretell his own death a few days before he died. Stanislaus had to travel from Vienna to Rome, which was a long and dangerous journey. He made the trip alone depending on the charity of others. During his short time as a novice his religious fervor and piety were amazing. The Holy See ratified his beatification in 1605; and he was canonized on 31 December 1726.

Written for young people, this charming telling of the life of St. Stanislaus endeared this heretofore unknown saint to me. (I listened to the LibriVox recording, and the reader has a delightful voice.)
