For the Love of Cake

For the Love of Cake

2015 • 264 pages

A bisexual younger judge, Maya, for a reality baking show meets an older lesbian contestant, Shannon, and more than batter gets mixed.

The progression of the main relationship between the judge and the contestant is realistic and cute. The author brings in another couple (Sawyer and Jori) to spice up the beginning of the book, while Maya and Shannon find their way to each other. The issue with the second story line is that Sawyer and Jori are having problems which in the second half of the book are mysteriously resolved - yet not - with a surprise conversation unheard by the reader. They are almost nonexistent in the second half of the book and there is a significant disconnect in the friendship between Jori and her best friend Shannon which does not make sense. In rushing to the romantic end for Maya and Shannon, other relationships ended up suffering.

For the Love of Cake is a quick fun romance with likeable characters and relatable bisexual/lesbian issues. PG-13 sex scenes.
