Fortunes of War
2009 • 302 pages

Fortunes of War is an interesting espionage story. I typically enjoy the historical fiction genre so was delighted to receive a copy. While this one was hard to follow at first, different characters and situations, it became easier. The pacing is a tad slow for this being a thriller but nonetheless enjoyable.

Usually with historical fiction books I learn something new. I didn't realize what went on with bonds during the war and how money was snuck out of countires in this manner. I really liked the banking aspect and learning a little about how the bonds worked.

This also had a sort of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibe (minus the supernatural of course). I always love stories where people come together who can affect change, and do. The plan these Sentinels concocted seemed plausible too so that added to the enjoyment. Very easy to “see” this playing out in my head as I read.

Definitely recommend this one for fans of slower type historical fiction. If you also like a little espionage and vigilante type justice.

I sincerely appreciate Book Publicity Services for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
