The main character is constantly wallowing in her malaise and while the story spans her lifetime and one could assume it's only moments it doesn't make her particularly endearing and she's just generally uninteresting, but she speaks prettily through a story that can be summed up as tales of discontent from the perspective of a privileged girl/woman. Every character in this book seemed more interesting than the protagonist and that might have been the point but I'm not inclined to be charitable to it.
Forty Room is the kind of book I would call pretty but unmemorable if I hadn't read the last few pages. The venom behind the fatphobia just closed this otherwise decent enough book on a serious yikes.
