The story is a good one. A young woman wakes up in a place she doesn't recognize, with no memory of how she got there, a wad of cash that she has no idea how she came to possess, and a young boy who calls her mama. She learns that the name she remembers isn't the name she's known by, and it doesn't take her long to wonder if she might have been involved in some underhanded dealings, and if there might be some nasty folks after her. How could that not grab you and pull you in?!
The problem is, I think this book could have benefited from another good proofreading or two. The changes in verb tense from past to present (and I'm not talking about just using past tense in flashbacks), the spelling and punctuation errors, all the little mistakes added up to enough of a distraction that I nearly put the book down and walked away. I found the story compelling enough to finish the book, though, and I'm glad I did. I'd love to read more of the author's work. It would be excellent if a little more attention were given to the mechanical details of writing.
