“Why,' she lamented in a recorded encounter that would eventually top one million internet hits, ‘are we encouraging deer to cross the road in such high-traffic areas?' A short silence followed. ‘You seem to think,' one of the hosts began tentatively, ‘that deer-crossing signs are telling deer where to cross?”

What an interesting take on the human-nature interactions we as a society take part in. Mary Roach did an impressive job of collecting little known scientific facts about animal's habitual abilities to constantly break laws that humans follow, but cannot persuade animals to follow. A bit slow in the nitty gritty details, but a fascinating read nonetheless. Highly recommend for someone interested in nature, or like me just looking for a thought-provoking read full of miscellaneous animal facts.
