Gallant by V.E. Schwab is a novel that left me with mixed feelings. While there were elements of the story that I enjoyed, there were also aspects that fell short of my expectations.
At first, I found myself drawn into the atmospheric setting and the haunting atmosphere that Schwab effortlessly creates. The premise intrigued me, and I was eager to see where the story would take me. However, as I delved deeper into the narrative, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing.
The characters, while interesting, didn't fully resonate with me. I struggled to connect with their motivations and found myself wanting more depth and complexity from them. Additionally, the pacing felt uneven at times, with certain scenes dragging on while others felt rushed.
That being said, Schwab's prose is as enchanting as ever, and there were moments of brilliance scattered throughout the novel. The exploration of themes such as family, identity, and sacrifice added depth to the story, but I couldn't help but feel that it fell short of its full potential.
Overall, Gallant is a novel that has its moments but ultimately left me feeling underwhelmed. While it may appeal to fans of atmospheric and character-driven storytelling, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. However, I remain hopeful that Schwab's future works will recapture the magic that I know she's capable of delivering.
