Normally, a mere outbreak of petty thefts in a youth hostel wouldn't be enough to interest the great detective Hercule Poirot. However, the warden of the hostel is sister to Poirot's secretary Miss Lemon, and concern for her sister is interfering with Miss Lemon's typing abilities. Poirot finds himself with an intriguing puzzle on his hands, and before long, murder increases the mystery.

It was a different format from what I am use to with Poirot books. He was not there every step of the way Instead we where able to see the dynamics of the suspects in thier boarding House interesting enough but I can't say it was my favourite of this series
It was a fine book. A bit slow moving I guess. A different crime story.
This was a light and entertaining murder mystery. I have been reading Christie's books chronologically and found this one less cleverly developed than the others, but still worth reading. I liked that there were people of many nationalities and backgrounds represented, which does not always happen in Christie's books.
One thing I have noticed is that she is able to talk more freely about taboo topics than her earlier works. It is interesting to see that change.
I'd give it somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. I find the characters a bit odd to believe in and I especially find it tough to believe that people would be convicted and hanged on some of the chain of reasonings supplied. In this one, the final bit to force a confession was more plausible than some of the other ones I've seen.
The story is about a student boarding house, and the various shenanigans that students engage in. Poirot gets a person killed by poking around and then it goes downhill from there. :)
