This is a great book! As I was reading through this, I was taking notes on places that I would enjoy visiting. While we live in a historically saturated state, many of the hiking trails are overlooked.
Bryan MacKay does a fantastic job of taking you through several trails all over Maryland, including the wildlife and the plant life that you can expect to encounter along the trail. The decline of some wildlife is also noted. The history and use of the lands are commented on, which is something that you don't get in normal hiking guides. For historical uses, this will be perfect. Pictures are given through the book, and will be helpful for visual guides while on the trails.
I am excited to get out and hike these trails, taking along this guide for some handy notes and “what to see and expect” along the way. I am planning to use this guide extensively with Scouting and hoping that our scouts will get some fantastic information out of the text as well. For anyone that is wanting to discover some hidden gems in our state, then this is book that you need to start with.
