I just finished Home at Night by Paula Munier - A Mercy Carr Mystery and here are my thoughts!
Grackle Tree farm is a beautiful victorian manor on 30 acres of woods and wetlands and Mercy Carr knows it's the perfect place for the winter. Trouble is, a dead body was found in the library and the victim was found with a coded letter. Mercy needs to figure out the why before they move in.
During her investigation things heat up when a masked man shoots Thrasher. It's up to Mercy to figure out who would kill them before it is too late.
The characters in this book are amazing! Just for full disclosure, I haven't read the first 4 books in this series but I now have them all on hold at the library because I want these characters in my life!! The writing was amazing and I was right from page 1. This book holds up well as a standalone read.
The book is wonderfully descriptive and I was already sold on the book being that it is in a manor house with all the spooky vibes dripping out. It was decently paced which I need in a mystery book. It was very clever in its execution and I thought the ending was very satisfactory.
This is my kind of Halloween read. It built a captivating atmospheric ambience and I am here all day for that!!
4 stars!! I just found my new series!
