This book should be at the top of your list for 8th grade graduation gifts. Look past the somewhat sensationalist title—this book is a practical, insightful guide for navigating high school toward college admissions with less stress, competition, and busyness.
This is a book I wish I had read as a teen. The title certainly grabs your attention, but essentially the book teaches you, not just how to get into college, but about how to be a life-long learner.
This was one of two books I asked (made) my daughter read the summer before she started high school. She was reluctant at first because she was tired of my quoting from Cal Newport's “Deep Work.” But, when she was done, she asked me to buy his other book, “How to be a straight A student.”
