No real surprises here about Trump's narcissism and total lack of empathy for other people. There were a few revelations, however, about other players: Bill Barr was just enough of a human being to resist the absolutely worst of Trump's plans, but he was no saint, coming up with a bogus reason to get rid of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York so he couldn't spearhead a case against Trump. Mike Pence searched for a justification to do Trump's bidding on January 6, but ultimately couldn't find a constitutional rationale for upending our democracy. And apparently we owe a lot to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who made sure the military served our country, not the President. The book ends with an extended interview of Trump at Mar-a-Lago, which serves as a chilling warning that this isn't over, not by a long shot.
