A Wednesday Books reissue of one of the century's most beloved novels, I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, with a foreword by New York Times bestselling author, Jenny Han. Seventeen-year-old Cassandra Mortmain and her family live in not-so-genteel poverty in a ramshackle old English castle. Here she strives, over six turbulent months, to hone her writing skills. She fills three notebooks with sharply funny yet poignant entries. Her journals candidly chronicle the great changes that take place within the castle's walls, and her own first descent into love. By the time she pens her final entry, she has "captured the castle" -and the heart of the reader- in one of literature's most enchanting entertainments.

What a flop. It started off wonderfully, very charming and odd and funny, but about halfway through it went off the rails. Very bogged down in a plot device that didn't ring true, then out of nowhere the author throws a bunch of god stuff at us - most unpleasant. What a waste of a perfectly good start.
It reminds me of [b:Cold Comfort Farm 92780 Cold Comfort Farm Stella Gibbons https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1416161594l/92780.SY75.jpg 847348]. I didn't have the slightest idea of what I was getting myself into. This is a story of a 17-years old girl and sort of coming of age, her adventures with love, and life, and dealing with her father's authorship. I would say it's a rather typical YA novel :-D It's just set and written in the 1930s, so it's a bit different from what it would be had it been written now.
