If Given a Choice
I've been enjoying reading some of Tracie Peterson's older titles. This one was mostly a miss for me. I did love the strong faith thread for Jennifer Campbell. That was definitely the highlight for me.
The leading man felt hypocritical to me. He wanted to make a commitment to court a gal, but he expected her to make that same decision without knowing anything about him. He was actively avoiding answering her questions but expected her to decide right then and there if she wanted to work toward marriage with him. I don't know how he expected her to make an informed decision when he refused to inform her when she inquired as to his faith and other subjects. How could he demand “just trust me” when he hadn't yet proven he was trustworthy?
I really disliked the hyper focus on the physical aspect of the romance with very little emotional or spiritual engagement or investment. I didn't feel like the characters knew each other well enough for such behavior, so I found it difficult to root for them.
I did like that the leading lady was willing to get her hands dirty to help run the resort she was staying at. That was a really fun aspect of this story for me.
