I applaud the editors for bringing story lines arcing through a number of series and books into a whole, accessible by one who hasn't been reading the background stories of Avengers, New Avengers, and all the Marvel Universe books that feed into this massive undertaking. Especially loved the interlacing of separate books - issues weren't kept wholly together if it didn't make sense for the story. Took a lot of care and attention to bring such an epic sprawl of issues and events to one book.
Had more fun reading this book than I did at the movie theater for the most recent Avengers outing. Great art, great characterization, great fun.
I do wish that the AR listing in the back of the collection had been reorganized to give page and panel information in the order in which they came in the collection, rather than the order of original publication within series. I would like to see Marvel do more with the reverse connection of these fascinating and informative extras once the AR is no longer “live” for current books. It was too hard to figure out what caption went with which page, so I ended up revisiting all of the AR content after I had finished the entire book. Worked out okay, but I would have really liked to have had access as I was reading, especially not being as fluent in the universe as many others are.
