What if a woman who knows nothing about sports inherits a professional football team? The Windy City definitely isn't ready for Phoebe Somerville, the outrageous, curvaceous New York knockout who’s taking over their home town team. And Phoebe is definitely not prepared for the Stars' head coach Dan Calebow, a sexist jock taskmaster with a one-track mind. Calebow is everything Phoebe abhors. And the sexy boss is everything Dan despises - a meddling bimbo who doesn't know a pigskin from a pitcher's mound.
So why is he drawn to the shameless sexpot like a heat-seaking missile? And why does the coach's good ol'boy charm leave cosmopolitan Phoebe feeling awkward, tongue-tied...and resdy to fight?
This is the book that began it all. The Chicago Stars are about to take the field... and they’re not the only ones playing for keeps.
The mismatched pair spark fireworks of all sorts in this sexy, heartwarming, and hilarious "prequel" to Phillips's This Heart of Mine.

I don't read a whole lot of contemporary and I'm not a sports fan at ALL, but I absolutely loved this story!!! I'm definitely reading the entire series now. I've already ordered about half of SEP's backlist, lol!
This book was at times funny and sexy, and at other times gut-wrenching and emotional. I adored Phoebe. She is a perfect example of why you shouldn't judge a book (or a person) by its cover. You never know what may be hidden beneath the showy, in-your-face exterior. Phoebe was gutsy and strong, real and beautiful.
As for Dan...Dan was hot. :D A big, brawny manly man with hair on his chest. Yum. Together they are explosive. He doesn't take too kindly to this woman who knows nothing about football coming in and taking over, but their fights usually ended up with their hands and/or lips all over each other. Their chemistry is off the charts!
This book won a RITA award for best romance in 1995, and it's currently only 1.99 on Amazon. Hurry and snatch this one up! http://amzn.to/1WjDMI1
The first series on the Chicago Stars as well as the first one of the Sommervilles girls. Now I've been waiting to read this one for a long time and once I start, I can't stop. This is where the Chicago Stars really started. This is where Phoebe Sommerville and Dan Calebow met. I know zilch about American Football but I do know that I love the Chicago Stars. I love the way they rise to success, how Phoebe and Dan make it possible for the Stars to shine. Most of all, I love Phoebe and Dan. Yes, they are not real, but who cares??
This was an awful book. Her father was a womanizing jerk who treated her like dirt. She's raped at 18 and of course her creep sleazebag father doesn't believe her. Then there's the so called hero of the story who goes home with a teenage girl. I have no idea idea if they had sex or not, I stopped listening to the audio at that point. I have no idea why it's gotten such high reviews.
