Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war—and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.
Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried—and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.

This book was 500 stars! For all the great dialogues that had me laughing so much. Slow-buuurn was brutal. Ending was crazy. Buuuut, Nikolai's still here so here's to witty planning in the next part. Loved every part of this book.
Id say im fine but that would be me joking.
I do love nikolai though, very much.
Hmm... I am really disappointed... If not for the ending I would probably give this one 2 stars and that is rare for me! And I really loved the Six of Crows duology, but King of Scars did nothing for me. Will still try the second book and I hope the story gets better!
If this book was entirely Zoya and Nikolai, it would be an easy 5 stars. But I just didn't care for Nina's storyline. I was hoping for an emotional story about grief and loss that would make me reevaluate my perspective on love and death. I didn't get that. Not even close.
Nina, if you're reading this, I still love you. Please don't take this personally. I'm free on Wednesday night for a waffle date. Hmu.
I think I might actually write a review for this so rtc???
