Sigh I really don't know how to rate this book. I mean, there are so many good things in it: Liam is such a unique romance character in that he's practical and doesn't go much for ‘typical' romance signals and he strikes me as being neurodivergent. (Another reviewer mentioned they read Liam as on the autism spectrum and I was personally thinking Asperger's.) There's also a moment when Liam realizes that, regardless of romance, he wants friendship more which wamed my heart like you wouldn't believe. Finally, there's some very frank talking between Liam (who doesn't do things any other way) and a friend of his that is wheelchair bound. Ooh, and The Raven is totally not who I was expecting and kudos for that. (I figured it out like the same second Liam did, so that was kind of cool.)
But...maybe I'm just being petty but it struck me as super annoying that Liam has been with a few women and has never thought about being gay until he gets kissed by a guy and he has to ‘test it' (I shan't explain how) and then he decides he's ‘gay.' Because, heaven knows there's no such thing as being bi. I mean, I liked that there was no ‘gay panic' and that Liam calmly took the time to decide that this was really what he wanted but...From what I can tell, Liam still likes girls, just not as much as he likes this guy but...really, it's just all kinds of problematic for me because people thinking that a bi guy with another guy means he's really gay or a bi girl with a guy means she's really straight and...that's kind of what this book did.
Blerg. I'm not explaining myself very well and maybe I just made a mountain out of a molehill - but it annoyed me so that's good enough.
