Lisboa Clichê was created by Daniel during the confinement, and it's comprised of images from his personal archive, from when he was a photojournalist. Like all cities, Lisbon suffered several changes in the streets, architecture, an exodus of people, nightlife places, restaurants, bars, and transportation just to name a few. Cities can transform us, educate us, love and disappoint us, and we are not indifferent to them. Some of the best filmmakers have been filming New York extensively, being the city and their stories their inspiration. During the '80s and '90s, Lisbon changed more than the 50 years before and there was a revolution in arts, fashion, music, poetry, cinema, theatre and nightlife! The city was awakening and becoming hype. An art vanguard revolution started to happen and Lisbon was on the map of a Europe that was just reborn as one community! Daniel has been sharing one image a day, and with the image, also the story behind it. There are portraits of his close friends, artists, writers, poets, musicians, some of them are no longer with us, and Daniel includes the story of the image and his relation with the person. There are also images of places, cinemas, shops, bars, train stations etc! There is no longing in these images or text, leaving the stories and interpretation opened for the reader. Personally, and being lucky enough to have seen some of that evolution, I can also relate to these people and places, this Lisbon was Daniel's, mine and of so many others! The confinement made us look through the window waiting for better days, wishing for everything we would be doing once it was over, but it also made us look within. Searching an archive can be an experience full of surprises, we find a person in an image we haven't talked in years, places that no longer exist, kids that are grown-ups already... The possibilities are infinite! During a situation as particular as the confinement was, there is nothing better than to keep memories alive and look back at the archive! Thank you for reminding us, Daniel! - Paulo de Magalhães Almeida.
