Well, I just think that, overall, this book is not for me. It has a good author, mind you. Gray was a woman who I loved when I read her other book Bloodlines, which also happened to be another Star Wars novel. There she managed to weave an interesting mystery about who was causing problems for a people on a certain planet, and showed the political problems within the galactic senate. Here she manages to, well...not do that.

Let me explain. Firstly, know that this novel is very different from that text. Here, we get a look at various scenes from the perspective of two people who decide to join the Empire as pilots. These scenes are ones that have to do with the Star Wars Films 4 to beyond 7. At best, this can be an interesting way to show how certain characters survived attacks in each film, and show how certain soldiers felt about the Empire. At worst, it is just a contrived excuse to see scene after scene from your favorite film, with little connecting them overall. In the end, I think it is the latter rather than the former for me. I just was never able to get over the feeling that Gray was trying to get these two characters into certain situations so that we could see the famous scenes from the films. This made me want to not pick the book up again after I put it down to do something else. This lack of interest has forced me to put in on my Could Not Finish shelf before I had to return it to the library.

Will I revisit this book again someday? Maybe. I can certainly see why some people live this book, but for me I prefer Bloodlines for its more continuous narrative that feels less contrived. I give this book a three out of five.
