DNF - PG 144
Why?
I have a rather bad habit. I'll be reading along, truly enjoying a book, then I'll get interrupted and no longer be able to read it. But I do have access to the internet and I'll want to know what the sequel is like. Or like this book, where I honestly wanted to know how long it was going to take before everything would turn out okay for Vanyel and Tylendel. Because, seriously, I wasn't even halfway into this book and I was already invested in both of them and I was feeling a totally out of character protectiveness for Vanyel.
However, I discovered that things most assuredly do not turn out okay for Vanyel. Ever, really. I did research into the second and especially the third book in the series which prompted some spoilering of this book as well as skimming ahead. Honestly, what I read, I kind of loved - but I know that depressing stuff is coming and I don't even get a moderately happy ending. I like angsty books. I don't deny it. I've even been known to like books that get a little depressing. But I can't handle stories that don't end happily. Real life sucks enough as it is, I don't need it in my books too.
(So, I'm just going to pretend that the story ends on page 144, that this was a romance novella with a slightly open ending and that everything is happy. Goodbye.)
