Good start to this new run. The catch-up from the previous series mostly worked. I look forward to them all being back in Jersey City as the space stuff was just ok.
A very nice ending to Ms. Marvel... It was a bit different from the past ones but still nice. I loved that she and Bruno remained as friends. And I like Amulet, he's a Muslim too! Anyways I recommend to Marvel and Ms. Marvel fans!!!
Ahmed does a great job of taking over from Wilson; his writing style is distinct, to be sure, but he has a good handle on the characters, and the tone of the comic changes less than I might have feared. Much of the story here takes place on an alien world, which is something I'm less keen on, but it's handled well, showcasing Kamala's compassion and determination and keeping human in an exotic environment. There's a nice touch in that, for the first half, the story is narrated by those who (to varying extents) know her from the outside, before switching to how she sees things herself in the second half. While most of the rest of the previous supporting cast are absent, there's a particularly good use of Kamala's family, something that helps emphasise her relative youth as well as grounding the story. It's not quite there with the very best of Wilson's run, but the title seems to be in good hands.
Solid, if not spectacular, superhero story with a strong brown perspective that made me proud of representation! Kamala Khan and her teen friends/ family speak in such a realistic way for their backgrounds that I easily fell into this story, despite its rushed pace typical of the comic medium. There is definitely a strong homage here to the 80s Secret Wars Spider-man story in the way of Ms. Marvel's new suit, and the plot itself is a basic sci-fi story - hero gets caught on alien world which has conflicting factions (which makes for an interesting early twist) before having to provide their skillset to save them from a threat. The addition of the Khan family and intriguing characters like Cheb elevate the story's simplicity and the visual style is great for the comic, with a few interesting changes when characters are telling stories of the ‘Chosen One'.
