Maya Loop

Yassss. A middle grade which was fantastic! Great writing, great and loveable characters: we need more of this! :D

The reader follows the brave blue-haired girl named Maya Loop. Maya lives in Baltimore with her grandfather after her mother leaves for work in Afghanistan. She didn't want to leave her old life behind, but she had to, and living in Baltimore definitely changed her life fore good.

Landions (aliens) want to eliminate all human beings on planet earth. They only need one last piece to finish their quest: the last piece from a water clock. Maya is the chosen one in this book and she has to save mankind. She and her grandmother have special powers, but since her grandmother is gone, Maya is literally the only one left to save them all.

I loved, loved, loved the Maya's vibes: her blue hair, her fierce character, her attitude. She can be a role model for many eleven year old's. This book deals with time travel, but it is condoned in such a way that it is not confusing in any way.

I personally also liked that the author used the story to learn the young readers a lesson about the mishaps humankind made!

The story is fast-paced, it contains humor, action, adventure and a lot of creativity with a lot of strangeness. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any young reader (ages 7 and up) to read this book. It's amazing.
