Mouthful of Birds

Ah, I am seriously afraid that this will be the best thing I've read in 2019 and here it is, January. These stories are incredible. Some of them I will be thinking about for YEARS. After reading Headlights, I immediately ran into the other room and read it, again, aloud to my 19 year old daughter. After I finished, we just sat in stunned silence together...and then talked about it for an hour. So very good! I read this slowly over almost two weeks, letting one story settle before I started the next. My favorites (note to self for rereading): Headlights, The Digger, Toward Happy Civilization, OlingrisBut, really, they are all wonderful. I haven't been this excited about a short story collection since I discovered Judy Budnitz and George Saunders. Excellent.
