I liked the Michigan setting. I liked the lighthouse bake shop. Her love interest and friend were well written, but I think Betty might have been my favorite side character. The enemy characters were well written in that I hated them. There were good reasons for some of them to be so nasty. She started out looking way down on this place, but she seemed to settle in nicely. We didn't see this change because there is a vague time gap from the first of the story to the mystery part. That didn't bother me, but it might bother some people.
There was a significant clue that they missed for a very long time and I didn't really understand why. The murderer was a surprise. There were a couple clues there, but I wonder if I am making those up because I know who the murderer is. The repetition of the phrase inner New Yorker was annoying.
It is a great setting and the characters are good, but this particular murder wasn't my favorite mystery. The bakery lighthouse is definitely a place that I will visit again even before the next book comes out.
